The Eddie Halperin Story
Eddie grew up as we did through the school systems of Park Ridge, NJ. We were friends through grade school, high school, college, and into the "real world". At 25 years of age, Eddie was a kind, talented and successful citizen who showed daily all he had to offer. Scheduled to start his final year at Cornell Law School in the fall of 2002, Eddie was offered a position at one of the premier law firms in New York City. His passion and years of hard work were paying off.
In June 2002, Eddie was treated in the hospital for a problem with his gall bladder. Doctors removed the organ, but his symptoms persisted. In September 2002 as his pain worsened, Eddie and his family learned that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer, a uniquely rare and terrible disease. Plans would have to change and Eddie and his family, with the support of friends, set out to fight the disease.
Eddie persevered through aggressive chemotherapy, sometimes receiving treatments every day for two week periods. In addition to chemotherapy, he was subject to enormous doses of medication. At the time of his illness, Eddie's medical coverage was limited and his prescription drug plan quickly exceeded the maximum allowance of his student plan in just a few short months.
